Ellie LaVeer is one of those women who does it all. She’s a wonderful mother of two boys, a hands on homemaker, crafter, and she’s teaching herself to sew. But, add to all of those domestic qualities Ellie is a regularly performing Singer Songwriter from the Charlotte/Columbia area in the Carolinas, performing in local bars, coffeeshops and conferences with her indie musician friends.

thisplaceIn 2007 Ellie took her musical career to the next step and recorded her debut album, This Place, with producer Andrew Osenga from the Normals and Caedmon’s Call. This Place can be downloaded from the link provided, it is also available on iTunes and CDBaby. This Place feels like the spring of Life, with breezy melodies paired with Ellie’s comfortable guitar and Osenga’s expertly layered production evoking the expectation that this is just the beginning of many budding things. A growing family, a new city, and a comfort that although the road looks like it will be long at least you have your radio to keep you company. Tracks like “See What You’re Made Of” and “I Need the Sun” especially have that road-trip feeling.

I had the privilage to host Ellie in concert in my home for a house show soon after This Place was finished. It was a very intimate experience with plenty of explanation of each song’s inspiration and funny stories from the recordings. I really recommend seeing Ellie perform if you are ever in the Carolinas, it will be much like sitting down to a cup of coffee with a friend.
