Or the Momme and Poppe Shoppe.
Saturday the 30th from 10 to 6 you can find me doing my thing at Crafty Mart. I’ll be selling things from my Templeton Line, again. And adding a couple of new items for the men folk, as the theme is shopping for Mother’s and Father’s days.
And I will be having a special guest at my booth! My twelve-year-old Sister-in-Law, Emily, is an art prodigy. She’s going to be selling her own original art in coloring book form. I am so excited to be involved in the beginning of what is going to be a very bright artistic future for Emily. Her designs for the book have not been released yet, but here is a quick teaser of her talents.

See you there!

More things being made. And these are my favorites to date. I can promise one of them will be mine to keep, and will be worn on Saturday.
These headbands are made with variations of suiting fabrics and broadcloth on the reverse. Some of them will be reversible. Some, like the one pictured here, will be more ornate. We can all thank the anthropologie catalogue for coming just in time to inspire me. There are so many muted, etherial colors in that catalogue, it makes me sew flowers for headbands.
There’s one more product reveal coming up. And one that I’m keeping a secret. Ok, ok, I’ll give you a hint: I’m calling them stir-staches.

I am simplifying my palette for my Templeton line and Crafty Mart this year. Trial and error has convinced me that I had overshot what I make and mostly left buyers confused as to what it is I offer at my booth. So this year I am making many of the same items, but only using men’s clothing fabrics that I have upcycled.
I have made flower pins many times in the past, and even made a tutorial on it. But this time I did box pleating and cinched it in the center, which I think makes a fabulous flower shape I hadn’t achieved before. I also have some other broach shapes I’m experimenting with. I haven’t decided if they are turning out or not, so no pictures at this time.
I have some other ideas brewing, this week is a big making week, so you’ll see how they’re turning out in a few more days.

I know you’re excited. I’m excited because Crafty Mart is my favorite local event of the whole year. I love seeing the creativity that North East Ohio has to offer, and I love feeling that electric vibe right in Downtown Akron.
All the details are the same as before. Awesome work for local artists and crafters, for sale to you on November 13th, from 10am to 5pm at Musica downtown. If you come later rather than early the bar is open, too, which makes for extra fun while browsing.
I’ll be there as Templeton Goods as well as representing Craft Akron. Which will be fun because I get to do the two things I like best: sell stuff I really like made from repurposed clothing, and teach people how to make some very cute, very quick crafts. Do come. I can speak for all the vendors- the more the merrier!

Remember Ghostbusters II when the guys were in the abandoned subways searching out ghosts? The venue for Ingenuity Fest reminded me of this. It was on the bottom level of a bridge which led into an underground abandoned subway area. The secret areas of the city were opened up to us for a little adventure, along with lots of bands, technology ideas, & art. I think this was their first time doing this, and I can’t wait to see how it grows since there was quite a bit of room for more activity.

As hard as it is for a former English Major to part with books, I’ve managed to gather some up for the Book Swap. It’s so much more managable to say good bye when I know I can bring home some new books, and eat some tasty goodies, and hang out with my friends and meet new ones.
It’s true. I love swapping.
Here’s the info! See you all tomorrow at the Fabulous Craft Akron!

For those of you in the NE Ohio area, you must make a trip to the Farmer’s Market at Stan Hywet. It’s Thursday’s from 4-7pm through September 23. We bought fresh wheat bread, grass-fed cow cheese, and plumbs. Everything tasted fresh & flavorful. I was especially amazed at how creamy & rich the cheese was.
As a bonus after the market, you can walk the estate gardens for free. I took lots of pics of my son running across bridges, next to fountains, & through the grape arbor tunnel.

I’m not talking about my “I found this in the car & won’t get sunburnt hat” in the left picture. And I didn’t buy a hat either. I did buy a headband though. Isn’t it pretty? I met Paula Singleton of What A Great Hat! at the Akron Arts Expo this weekend (she’s wearing pink in the left picture). Her vintage style hats are each originals with the most delicate & perfectly classy embellishments. Plus she’s getting ready to begin teaching classes. I suggested a hat embellishments class where you bring a thrift store hat and learn how to add flowers, beads, feathers, etc. But she also does the blocking herself for the straw hats, so I’m guessing she’ll teach that as well. I wish I got a close-up of the brown hat above my right hand. The base is hand blocked straw of the most wonderful pattern. I’d take a class to make one of those!
*Update*
Paula send a photo of that hat for us!

Twice this summer our family has attended Music in the Meadow, which is a free family concert at Howe Meadow in the Cuyahoga Valley. I can’t say enough praise for this event. It is on Wednesdays from 5:30, music starting at 6:30. Most people pack a picnic dinner and spread out a blanket and watch the show.

If you come at 5:30 there are kid-appropriate activities including giant bubbles and frisbee golf. There are also music related crafts, which encourage kids to play along with the concert. We’ve taken home a easter-egg maraca and a wooden framed drum the past two times we came.
So far we’ve seen HeartBEAT Afrika, and another band which I can’t find the name of for the life of me even though I’ve been searching for 30 minutes! Next up is Copus Hill, a Bluegrass band on July 28th. If you’re looking for something free to do this summer, this is it.
