I’m teaching one more class this month at Craft Akron. You’ll create pretty fabric rose flowers from recycled fabrics. Make one hair clip & one pin, and choose from a variety of fabrics & colors. I’ve been wearing these flowers on my winter coat, scarf, and sweaters, or in my hair. They’d also look great as a gift decoration.
Class cost is $12 plus a kit fee of $8. Make sure to preregister at 330-865-1100 or info@craftakron.com…class is limited to 10 students.

Crafty things have been brewing behind the scenes here in Akron, and Colleen and I have been very lucky to have a backstage pass. There is a new studio our friend Martha is opening in the Valley called Craft Akron, and Clever Nesting will be teaching some of our classes in their awesome space. If you’ve attended my Journal Class in the past you know that the space was a little tight, but that shouldn’t be a problem at Craft Akron. Come to the Open House and check out Martha’s space.
The first class Clever Nesting will be teaching is my Journal Class, the same one I taught back in the summer. It will be held on December 12th at 2pm until 4pm. The cost is $25 paid to Craft Akron (you can register by emailing info@craftakron.com) and a $5 kit fee due at the time of class. I also ask that you bring 2 sheets of your own paper to cover your journals, any sturdy paper you find attractive will work as long as it measures at least 20″ by 10″. I have success using wallpaper samples, or sturdy wrapping paper scraps. If you can’t find paper that large, 4 sheets of 10″ by 10″ will work as well.
In the class you will learn how to hand bind the journal pages as well as how to make a soft cover and a hard cover for them. Everyone who took the class before went home with two journals and got to spend time getting to know local crafty-folk. Don’t miss it!

The night before a baby shower this weekend, I rummaged the closet & chose this brown skirt & teal shirt to wear. But no jewelry seemed sufficient, so in the wee hours of the night I was plopped on my basement floor beading a last-minute necklace to match.
I used a clasp, crimp beads, beading wire, large & small teal beads, large round brown beads, and brown chip beads. I strung them in alternating sets of “large teal & round brown beads” and “small teal & brown chip beads”. I really like this style & pattern of necklace…I’m looking for class ideas to teach in the upcoming months. Does anyone want to take a class to make this type of necklace?

I really enjoyed our class on Friday night at Nervous Dog Coffee. The women who came out to learn how to bind journals were a really cool mix of people. Everyone came ready to work and get sticky (Jenn!). We also came to chat. I really felt like I’d had a girls’ night out after it was over.
Here are some shots of the class sorting through wallpaper sample books to find their cover papers. I wish that I had been able to take some pictures during class time, but unfortuantely Colleen couldn’t be there and so I couldn’t step away.
Baby B #3 is due in a month, so I’ll be on maternity leave (from myself and Colleen, if that counts!) for a few weeks afterwards. But I hope to teach the class again in December. Everyone who came remarked on how gift-able this craft is and I want to give everyone another chance to learn it before the Holidays.
There were a few people who mentioned wanting to take the class, but not living close enough or having to work that night. I thought I’d ask if anyone would be interested in buying the instructional booklet in pdf form to print at home? If you are interested it will be offered on a limited time basis for $7. Let me know in the comments if you’re interested and I’ll email you an invoice through paypal and then I’ll email you the pdf.

Tonight is the Journal Binding Class and I have to bring a TON of supplies. That is what makes taking a class so much fun, I buy the supplies and you get to try it out, without filling up your house with things until you are sure that they will be useful for you.
But for me, I now get to have 6 awls, and 6 exacto blades, and 3 special glue sticks, etc., that I have to carry along to the class all at once! That’s why I made “Clever Nesting To Go.” This $.75 vintage suitcase was thrifted and overhauled by me and waiting to be filled with crafty goodness. If you’re coming tonight you get to meet her in all her glory.
Hopefully I will be able to take some time out of instructing and get some decent pictures of the class. I’m anticipating lighting issues, so forgive me if they are dark. But look tomorrow for an update on our first Clever Nesting Education event!

There is still one week to register for our workshop on handmade journal binding. Next friday night, August 21st, at 7pm meet us at Nervous Dog Coffee for a night of coffee and crafting. We will learn how to make a hardcover and soft covered journal out of second hand materials. The cost is $25, which includes materials.
Check out our facebook event page for more details, or email devona@clevernesting.com to register.
Devona and I went to the Akron Stitch ‘n Bitch group last night. It was a fabulous time! We met at someone’s house and worked on the back deck which was so relaxing. We had nice conversation and some yummy food. Overall the group has a great vibe and I can’t wait to go back. I just need to coordinate babysitting.
I did get a little laughed at because of my current knitting project!
