I’m teaching this free class at the Highland Square branch of the Akron-Summit County Public Library .

Iris Paper Folding Wall Art

Come use recycled paper and Iris Paper Folding techniques to make a 5″ x 7″ frame-able wall art. Iris Paper Folding is basically layering paper in a pattern and using it as a background behind a shape cutout. Participants are welcome to bring their own recycled papers such as envelopes, junk mail, greeting cards, or discarded books to use, but a selection of papers will also be available. If attendees have a paper trimmer, they are welcome to bring it, as cutting paper strips will be much quicker.

Sign up is required, and begins August 16, at 330-376-2927.

If you can’t make it to class, I also wrote a  tutorial for this project.

Book Swap

bookswapDevona & I are hooked on swapping.  I don’t think we can imagine life without them.  They’re perfect motivation to pair down your belongings and give things away.  Plus there’s the hope of bringing home more useful items & meeting some great people in the process.

So, next up is a book swap at Craft Akron.  Any books are welcome… fiction, kids, crafts, magazines, and even old ripped books for altered art.  $5 admission covers snacks & room rental.  Unwanted books after the event will be donated to local charities.

The Clothing Swap is Here

So remember a while back I asked for some feedback regarding how you’d like a clothing swap to be executed. Well I took the responses and I have been planning it out. I hope you don’t mind that I am postponing this week’s tutorial until Friday so I can give you more information about the Swap instead. I want to make sure everyone has enough time to go through their closets.

clothingswap-crop

The date is Saturday, June 26th, from 11am to 2pm. We’ll have the space at Craft Akron at our disposal. There will be snacks, dressing areas, and full length mirrors. And the more people who come, the more items there will be to choose from.

How does it work? Well, everyone comes at 11ish, and brings with them their items. Eligible items  include excellent condition clothing, shoes, hand bags, hats, and jewelry. The Swap is only open to women, so don’t bring in your ex-boyfriend’s sweater you found in the back of your closet, even if it was only worn once and cost $90. For each item you bring you will receive a swap ticket. For the sake of simplicity, all items will be considered equal value, one for one. Since this is the case, the Ticketers can choose to not accept some items for the swap, for example, tacky Walmart jewelry. Keep in mind we are trying to have a blast and bless our friends while getting awesome new-to-you stuff in the process. Read more »

If you’re artistic & want to build your stash of recycled supplies, come to Zero Landfill!  It’s an event where architects, interior designers, and graphic designers donate their discontinued samples & materials so artists & teachers can collect & reuse them.  You’ll find paint samples, tiles, carpets, wallpaper books, fabric samples, and binders, and you can have them for free!  The event will be happening in Cleveland on 3631 Perkins Avenue, Fridays in July & August.

If you want to see how Devona & I used ZeroLandfill items from our previous visits, do a “ZeroLandfill” search on our sidebar.

lollipop-tableThe Lollipop Guild and I are going to be attending OddMall on May 8th. This is going to be a great show, and I’m looking forward to seeing some of the vendors I met last year as well as meeting some new crafters.

I’d love to see you guys out there too.

Mini-Mart

Do you remember Crafty Mart? I do. It was by far the most fun craft fair I attended last year. The energy was high, the vendors were super talented, and the music was fun to bop to while we talked to the crowd. The other bonus… it was held at Musica downtown, and you could get a drink or two while you shopped.

Minimart_FRONT

Well I am so excited to be attending Mini Mart on May 1st, brought to you by the awesome J and J duo who put on Crafty Mart. Why is it called Mini Mart? Well, in order to offer a broader range of talent the booth space is half the size. That means you will get to see twice as many vendors in the same space.

I will be vending as Templeton Goods, and will bring along a pretty good stock of children’s shirt-dresses and rompers, aprons, baby shoes, and wool plushies. I can’t wait to see you there!

Butter Cup Bag Class
Devona | March 29, 2010 | 10:11 am
April 9, 2010 5:00 pmtoApril 10, 2010 4:00 pm

DSC_0162Do you read Made By Rae? If you don’t, you should. She has wonderful tutorials, amazing photographs, and super cute kids. She also give out free patterns, as well as a few really excellent patterns for sale.

Well she has been so kind as to give me permission to teach a class using her Butter Cup Bag pattern at Craft Akron. If you have used your machine to sew simple items and you want to learn how to sew a lined bag, this is a really awesome class for you to take. The bag is small, so you can use some of that beautiful stash fabric that you haven’t used before, and still have some left over for another project (it only requires two fat quarters of coordinating fabric!).

The class is $40, for 5 hours of instruction over Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10. Join us! You will be so glad you did!
