So remember a while back I asked for some feedback regarding how you’d like a clothing swap to be executed. Well I took the responses and I have been planning it out. I hope you don’t mind that I am postponing this week’s tutorial until Friday so I can give you more information about the Swap instead. I want to make sure everyone has enough time to go through their closets.
The date is Saturday, June 26th, from 11am to 2pm. We’ll have the space at Craft Akron at our disposal. There will be snacks, dressing areas, and full length mirrors. And the more people who come, the more items there will be to choose from.
How does it work? Well, everyone comes at 11ish, and brings with them their items. Eligible items include excellent condition clothing, shoes, hand bags, hats, and jewelry. The Swap is only open to women, so don’t bring in your ex-boyfriend’s sweater you found in the back of your closet, even if it was only worn once and cost $90. For each item you bring you will receive a swap ticket. For the sake of simplicity, all items will be considered equal value, one for one. Since this is the case, the Ticketers can choose to not accept some items for the swap, for example, tacky Walmart jewelry. Keep in mind we are trying to have a blast and bless our friends while getting awesome new-to-you stuff in the process.
You will also be given a label to put with your items with your name and phone number inside. In the event one of your items is not swapped we will call you and you can come pick it up. If you would like to donate your unswapped items to charity, you can choose to put a blue sticker with your label and we will handle the donation for you.
After all the items are labeled we can spend some time organizing them. We can work together to put like items with like. And then the Swapping begins. We try things on, we snack, we gab, we feel beautiful. And then in the last half hour or so we bring our selections to one of the Ticketers and trade our tickets for our new-to-us items.
And lastly, a few of my friends have said that they don’t think that they have anything that would be useful to swap, or that they aren’t the fashion-y type and wouldn’t have anything to contribute. If you fit in this category, well maybe I can persuade you to give it a try with this argument. Everyone has a nice purse or a necklace that is perfectly good, but for some reason never gets worn anymore. This is the opportunity to trade that unused item for something you’d never be brave enough to buy. You might find that you are more fashionable that you thought you were! If not, you at least can eat some tasty snacks and hang out with Colleen and me!
