DSC_0263I’m still playing around with Peacock feathers. I really enjoy the froofy aspect of a feather. They even dress up jeans when you wear a feather. But unless you are going for the Thanksgiving Pegent look it is important to shape the feather to the curve of your head.

You need a feather and a pair of sharp scissors that you don’t use for fabric.

First you need to trim into the shaft of the feather. If you don’t the feather will only bend side to side. The wisps of the feather sprout from the front of the shaft, so be careful to trim only the back and all of beautiful wispies will stay intact.

Once you’ve trimmed the feather, you can curl it gently in your hands. Be sure to move your hand from the bottom to the top, just like you don’t want to pet a cat backwards.

Now your once-straight feather is as curly as you need it to be. You can simply cut the feather to your desired length and clip it to your hair with a decorative barette, or wrap the shaft of the feather to a headband with a length of silk ribbon.
