I am not usually a quilter. I can do simple things, but usually would rather just look at someone else’s work and admire the complex and beautiful items a real expert can create. But this week I have been inspired to make a quilt.
I just recently splurged on some of Anna Maria Horner’s flannels planning to make PJs for the girls for Christmas. But when I opened up the package the fabric was so lovely I knew it needed to be made into a toasty flannel quilt to showcase the fabrics. I planned to make a 12 square baby quilt for Cressida.
But then I found out on Wednesday that my Grandmother’s cancer is terminal. My Grandmother, or as I call her “Nina” was the woman who taught me how to sew. She is the woman I’ve always aspired to be. During my second pregnancy she made me a lap quilt for the baby with very simple blocks and a jungle theme. It is still used all the time for all sorts of games and of course, for keeping babies warm. So I’m going to make a quilt for my Nina, using the same blocks with my gorgeous Anna Maria flannels. I hope that she can snuggle up with it and feel my love for her. She is such an amazing woman.

What an incredibly sweet thing to do. I’m so sorry about your Nina (((hugs))
You are so sweet Devona!
