Colleen- This may be weird- but I have cut the elastic out of my underwear before I tossed it to use in crafts. I don't see any reason that you can't use elastic from other undies to make new ones. Also, check out www.sewsassy.com I have ordered some items from them to use with my bow ties, but they have lots of great stretch-lace to choose from at good prices. And their shipping is FAST!

Colleen, when you look for lace you can find some elasticized lace for the edges. Then you can skip the regular elastic and will have less bulk. :)
