Happy May Day everyone. I don’t know if it is just the maniac people in Akron who go to U of A that did this, but as far back as I can remember the college students in my home town celebrated the end of the semester by drinking too much and catching couches on fire in the front yard. Anyway, on May 1st, especially when it fell on a Friday we’d all talk about who was going to brave the crowds to see the silliness and perhaps get tear gassed. This was especially popular to talk about when I was a high schooler.
In honor of the fact that I will forever put May 1st and couches together in my mind I thought I’d write a little post about recycled couches. A much more productive topic for living room furniture than arson.
This is a couch I found in a post from Apartment Therapy ReNest made out of old Mac computers. I doubt that it is comfortable, and it’s not very attractive. Plus, considering how expensive even refurbished Macs are I bet this isn’t cheap, either.
This next couch is much more attractive, and even looks like it might be comfy! It comes from a post on WebUrbanist that has many other options for repurposed and recycled furniture. I love the bathtub couch and the shopping cart chairs are pretty cool as well. I’d buy or make something like this if we lived in a hip urban apartment instead of this 1920′s two story craftsman inspired home.
And last but not least, but definitely weirdest, The coffin couch. Yikes! This is the google search result that came up to most frequently, so I guess it should be included here. But gee-whiz! Who would want this? The bright blue model featured on Luxury Launches is just right for the Adam’s Family, but not my family. Thanks, but no thanks.
