I’ve never thought to call my craft room a studio. I often call it a mess. I am a scatter brained crafter and you can tell from the little piles I have all over my cutting table. It’s going to take a me a while to find a photo of my studio when it is clean (I know I have one somewhere!) but in the meantime I thought I’d share my most distinguishing feature of my craft room.
I share my space with my daughters, Olivia (4) and Elise (2). They work on their work, or they jump on the bed, while I work on my work. Sometimes they have a brainstorm of something they want to make and we work on it together. But all creating, except coloring, happens in the craft room and we only clean up after ourselves periodically. This leads to some fantastic messes. But, I have a clean-ish house otherwise and I am comfortable working in clutter, so this helps keep my kids involved and helps me get my work done. We can work together usually for about an hour before people start to lose patience.
The other thing worth sharing is my shelves of clothes that are worn out, or donated to me from friends, to be harvested for material/buttons/elastic. This is where I get most of my materials for crafts. I only purchase new fabric for large or special projects, otherwise I try hard to work from my stash. People have learned this and I get bags and bags of clothing from people before they drop it off at good will. I have a bag in my closet for goodwill that I slowly fill up with items I can’t use in my stash and when it fills up I donate it all at once.
