BYOB- Is it Cheating to Buy a Reusable Bag?

I brought some clothes over to my mother-in-law’s house in a reusable bag that I had bought at my local grocery store. She said that she was surprised that I had bought one instead of making it. It’s not that I haven’t made reusable bags (I have a tutorial from my old blog), it’s just that I forget them at home and would rather buy a bag at the store for $.99 than use plastic. Now I have a ton of store-bought reusable bags and it occurred to me that it might be cheating to not make my own from recycled materials, since that’s what I’m all about and all.
What do you think of reusable bags? Do you bring your own? Do you make your own? What’s the way to go when you go to the grocery store?

I have 10 reusable bags that I bought from the grocery store. And while I just watched a video from http://www.storyofstuff.com/ today and it sickens me knowing they were made in China, I still feel better about using them over the disposable plastic bags. If the day comes that I feel apt enough with my sewing machine I will eventually convert to ones I’ve made by using their bags (and plastic insert to hold the bottom open) as a pattern. Every little bit helps right?
that story of stuff site looks very interesting. I’m going to have to check that out tonight while everyone else is watching Lost. Thanks so much for sharing it Tabitha.
Don’t limit it to the grocery store!!! Take reusable bags everywhere!
I haven’t made any bags, but I have a ton of canvas bags that I’ve gotten free as promotional objects for this or that. I like the idea of making them out of scrap fabric, old tee shirts, even sheets and towels!
