I went to Afternoon Knit Cafe at my library today (Summit County Public Library).  It’s a place to bring your work-in-progress, get help, share patterns, books and ideas.  It’s once a month on a Monday from 3-4:30 pm, and it’s free.  

They also have programs such as Crafternoons, Sassy Sewing Club, Crafts for Dummies, and gardening and cooking ones as well.  Everything I’ve been to has been well worth my time.  Plus they know the best books to suggest reading!  So, even if you don’t live near my library, check out your own local library to see if they have something interesting to offer.
